Chania → Xerokampos, Lasithi, by motorbike and wild camping
I set out from Chania heading for Xerokampos in Lasithi, with a stopover for the night at Agia Marina beach, near Frangokastello. I had coffee stops in Zaros, Sitia and Neapoli.
The route passed through some of the most spectacular scenery in Crete:
- The descent from Imbros to Sfakia, with its famous hairpin bends
- Crossing the Kotsifou Gorge and the southern part of Rethymno prefecture
- The climb up to Zaros, starting from Mandres
- Crossing southern Heraklion, from Pyrgos onwards
- The descent from Ano Viannos to Myrtos
- The climb from Goudouras to Ziros, then the descent to Xerokampos
- The alternative route from Zakros to Sitia through the mountains
- The old national road from Heraklion to Rethymno
I spent the nights out in the open, wild camping at Agia Marina beach and at Frangokastello.
